“Gwyddwn fod ’rhen Mathers wedi’i lorio gan bwmp beic haearn, wedi’i ddarnio i farwolaeth â rhaw drom ac wedyn wedi’i gladdu’n ddiogel mewn cae. Gwyddwn hefyd fod yr un dyn bellach yn eistedd yn yr un stafell â mi, yn fy ngwylio mewn distawrwydd. Roedd ei gorff wedi’i rwymo ond roedd ei lygaid yn fyw ac felly hefyd ei law dde ac felly hefyd yntau o’i gorun i’w sawdl. Hwyrach mai hunllef oedd y llofruddio min ffordd...”

Flann O’Brien (1911-1966) was one of the pen names of Brian O’Nolan, one of the most prominent figures of the twentieth century in Irish literature and of post-modernist literature. He wrote novels and dramas in both Irish and English.

His English novel The Third Policeman is one of his best known works today, but though he completed it in 1940 it was not published until 1967, a year after the author died. It is now considered a masterpiece and one of the earliest great examples of postmodernism in fiction.

This new translation by Anna Gruffydd is the first time Flann O'Brien's work has been made available in Welsh.

Paperback, 244 pages.
