“Rwyf am fyw...
Rwyf am chwerthin...
ac ymladd a charu a chasáu...
Nid wyf am farw. Na.”

Selma Merbaum was born in Czernowitz (modern day Chernivtsi in Ukraine) in 1924. She died of typhus in the Mikhailowka labour camp, under the stewardship of the SS. Selma spoke German, Yiddish and Romanian, but wrote her poetry in German.

After Blütenlese (‘Flower Harvest’) was published in Israel in 1976, interest began to be shown in her poetry in Germany, and this was followed by translations into Yiddish, Hebrew, English, Dutch, Spanish, Ukrainian and now Welsh.

This Welsh translation of Merbaum's complete poetic works by Mary Burdett-Jones places these poems in the order in which they were written, so the reader can follow her development as a poet.

Paperback, 100 pages.
