“Gwyddwn yn fy nghalon mai dyma’r tro olaf y gwelid fy nhad yn y chwarel, a syllais dros y Neidr i gyfeiriad y ffordd y gwelswn F’ewythr Huw arni ar fy niwrnod cyntaf yn y gwaith. Do, aethai ugain mlynedd a mwy heibio er hynny, ond ni newidiasai’r blynyddoedd fawr ddim ar gadernid anferth y chwarel oddi tanaf. Rhoesant fwy o greithiau ar ei hwyneb, efallai, a dyfnhau’r archollion yn ei mynwes, ond arhosai hi o hyd mor ddigyffro a di-hid ag erioed.”
After his parents' death, middle-aged quarryman John Davies must clear their house by selling off their possessions to their neighbours 'from hand to hand'. These are the relics of his own life: each sale or gift brings with it memories both bitter and sweet about his upbringing, his relationship with his parents and uncle, and the society in which he lives.
T. Rowland Hughes was already famous as a radio producer and prifardd when O Law i Law, "From Hand to Hand", was published in 1942; but this novel and the ones which followed it brought their author a fame and popularity no novelist in Welsh had known since Daniel Owen. O Law i Law is his quietest and gentlest novel, and the one which draws the most from the author's own life and experiences.
Paperback, 226pp.
