Amser blin y chwarelwr yw y gaeaf...

Richard Hughes Williams (1878-1919) was one of the most prominent prose writers of his day in Welsh. He made his most notable contribution as a writer of short stories, and within that field he is considered a pioneer who was a major impact on later writers. Though he led something of a peripatetic life as a journalist, he was originally from Rhosgadfan and he is inextricably associated with the slate-mining communities of Gwynedd in which he was raised, and which forms the background to his most famous stories,

Collections of his stories were published in book form in 1914 and 1916 and added to in later volumes after his death. This new collection brings all these previously published stories together alongside four new ones which have not previously been available in book form.

He was the first to look at the [the Short Story] seriously.
—Kate Roberts

The Welsh short story was never the same again after him. It couldn't be.
—E. Morgan Humphreys
