"O'r gorau," meddai. "Un garw ydach chi, hefyd. Ond fe fydd yn well i Aubrey ac i Gwynn edrych ati hi."
"Pe buasai rhyw ddamwain anffodus yn digwydd i'r ddau," meddai Morley yn sychlyd, "buasai'n beth gofidus iawn."
"Gobeithio'r gorau," meddai Elston, ac ar hynnycerddodd y ddau i'r tŷ.
It's likely that John Aubrey, the creation of E. Morgan Humphreys, is the first literary detective in Welsh-language literature to appear in multiple stories. He featured in four adventures - one novel and three novellas - over a period of twenty-seven years, and this volume brings together the three shorter adventures.
Y Llaw Gudd ('The Hidden Hand', 1924) is a traditional murder mystery with a Welsh twist that sees Aubrey investigate the murder of a farmer in the Welsh countryside. Ceulan y Llyn Du ('Black Lake Hollow', 1944) sees Aubrey tasked to investigate the sudden disappearance of a businessman only to be drawn into a plot seeking revenge; whilst in Llofrudd yn y Chwarel ('Murderer in the Quarry', 1951) he's on the trail of a dangerous fugitive. These three stories, reissued here for the first time since their original publications, were important contributions to crime literature in Welsh.
Paperback, 234pp.
